Long golden hair, American style and stature with personal warmth is the first impression one receives from Ms. Debra Wright. Being the first international business consultant hired by Jinling Holdings Ltd, she will provide American marketing and management expertise. Jinling strives to combine Western and Chinese culture in ways that will attract more foreign business.

Writer: Why do you choose to work in Jinling Holdings? Is it your first time in China?
Ms. Wright: I first came to Nanjing last September (2005). I fell in love with this city because people here are very kind and gracious. They made me feel warm and welcome, so I decided to learn more while working here. Jinling has offered me the opportunity to travel all over China. In the coming week, I will go to Beijing. I am really excited about that! (Smile)

Writer: What kind of job do you do in Jinling?
Ms. Wright: I am a business consultant. I am helping Jinling combine Chinese and Western culture, to become more international. I’d like to share Chinese culture with foreigners in ways they can easily enjoy. For example, I became very interested in Qin Ming Festival and Lantern Festival after first coming to Nanjing. I would like to introduce these traditional Chinese customs to more foreigners while promoting Jinling’s brand name.

Writer: I have heard that you are a writer. Could you please talk about your works?
Ms. Wright: I have published some poems and am planning to write a book on my experience in China. China inspires me!

Writer: Which departments at Jinling have you worked with?
Ms. Wright: I need to work with all departments under Jinling Holdings Ltd, including Masterland, their real estate development, and Jin’s Inn, their budget hotel chain.

Writer: Who invited you to Jinling?
Ms. Wright: Mr. Tang, Chairman of Jinling Holdings Ltd. through my good friend of over 10 years, Frank Hou. Frank is currently in charge of Jin’s Inn and I met him through business in America. I helped him with his English back in the States and now he helps me with my Chinese!

Writer: Have you been to any places of interest in Nanjing during the time you have worked here? What has impressed you the most?
Ms. Wright: I‘ve been to Purple Mountain, Confucius Temple, Nanjing Museum, so many places! Chinese people are so creative, resourceful and intelligent. They can make anything beautiful, out of virtually nothing. I am more impressed, the more I learn. (Smiling with sparkling eyes)
